What does a trombone have to do with consumer experience? More than you’d think.
For millions of consumers, the relationship with SharkNinja doesn’t end at checkout – it’s just getting started. That’s the world Damian Hall lives in every day. As Senior Director of Global Consumer Experience, Damian leads the teams behind our tech and support functions, the people consumers turn to when they need help. Off the clock, Damian is also a trombone player in a 32-member band, and the more he talks about the two, the more they start to sound similar.
Keeping the Band in Sync
“Well, I’ve got a fantastic team. They’re my band,” Damian says. It’s not just a turn of phrase. A 32-piece band only works if every player is locked into the same tempo, the same key, the same sense of when to lead and when to hang back. Damian runs his team the same way.
“You have to listen more than you play,” he says. In a section that size, the musicians who make the whole thing sound good aren’t the ones playing the loudest, they’re the ones paying the closest attention. Damian brings that instinct to consumer experience: before his team builds or fixes anything, the job is to listen, to the consumer, to the data, to each other.
Delivering a Five-Star Experience
Damian’s team also moves fast, and he sees that as core to who SharkNinja is. “I think it’s the DNA that’s uniquely SharkNinja to actively go after everything with this pace and ferocity all the time,” he says. “We’re scrappy, we get stuff done. We iterate and we iterate and we iterate.”
Rather than reviewing a small sample of consumer support calls to check for quality, Damian’s team now uses AI to assess every call, giving them a full, real-time view of where consumers are running into friction and where the experience is working. That visibility means the team can drive faster fixes to the issues that matter most, closing the gap between a consumer’s problem and its resolution.
But for Damian, speed alone isn’t the goal. It’s what speed makes possible: more room for empathy. That’s the combination he’s chasing. Fast enough to respect a consumer’s time, human enough to earn their trust. Put together, that’s what builds a five-star experience, one call, one fix, one iteration at a time.
Playing It Forward
Damian’s approach is a reminder that innovation doesn’t always look like a single breakthrough. Sometimes it looks like a leader who knows how to listen, to his team, to consumers, and to the lessons a hobby outside of work can teach about the work itself. At SharkNinja, that’s how we work: everyone playing their part, in time with each other.
